I took a quick look at the gears on my broken m47, and it appears as if most of the damage was limited to the small gear on the input shaft, the one closest to the engine. This was no doubt the result of a failing input shaft bearing, as it had been making a lot of noise before the failure.
I was driving on the freeway when it finally gave up. I was going about 75-80mph in 5th gear, and it just stopped pulling, and I lost all of the gears with very little noise or warning. 4th did engage however, and I was able to get the car going and make it to my destination.
I am just curious, but does that gear on the input shaft cause almost a complete failure, as I described above? Is this a common failure?
