transmission compatibility 900 1994

I am replacing a 1994 940 NA wagon automatic transmission that reads Aisin Warner 03-71L Its slipping in first.
I have a good used tranny that reads 03-70L that I bought from a wreck years ago. Are these compatible. I have read that the 03-70L probably came off a NA 240 series and is considered light duty. I am an older guy and not a hard driver. But is the 03-70L okay for the NA 940 I have and can I use the torque converter from the 03-71L?

I also have a AW 03-71 I took off my wrecked turbo wagon that was okay, a tad sluggish and whiny. I was thinking of having that redone by the local trans shop withnew seals, discs and rubber. My trans guy says $700 to overhaul with a new torque converter. This would be the non lock up model. Would I suffer a couple of mpg loss on the highway if I went this route. I have synthetic fluid in it and its fine. Just wondering if after 175K its good to renew things.

The 03-70L had about 90K when it was wrecked. It looks pretty clean.
