Technical Question: Differential Oil (940, Non-turbo) 900

Dear Fellow Brickboarders,

Hope you're well. I've read the FAQs relating to replacing oil in the Differential. I've also reviewed the lubricant specifications in the Volvo pocket data booklet - Cars: 700,850,900 (1991-1996).

Do normally-aspirated (non-turbo) 940s sold in North American markets all have the Eaton differential? Or, do some have a Dana unit, that has a differential brake?

These units require different lubricants. The Dana unit requires a special additive, for its differential brake. The Eaton unit does not need any additive.

Volvo has two forms of differential lubricant. The oil for the Eaton unit is Part #1161329, The oil for the Dana unit is Part #1161129.

I plan to drain and re-fill using Mobil 1 Synthetic. Does this seem to be in order?

Thanks for your help.

Yours faithfully,

Spook
