I recently acquired a 1990 245 auto that idles poorly, and has trouble starting on certain random days.
I believe it is a fuel problem, since there is spark. When I turn the ignition to position 2, I don't ever hear the main pump prime. I swapped in a working Fuel Pump Relay, which did not help. I jumped fuses 4 and 6 to see if the pumps would even run, and they didn't. It runs decently when the car is on - just a bit louder than my other '90 245.
Before I go and grab another pump, what else can I check? I have a multimeter, but I am not very handy with electrical problems. No better time to learn, I guess.
Any and all advice is appreciated.
Thanks,
