Xena has been giving me fits! I put a new battery in this spring, the old one had a dead cell. Now my voltmeter tells me it isn't getting a charge all of the time?
After first start, the gauge reads 14V, then it drops to 13.5V. When I start driving it will fluctuate from 12V to 13.8V. At around 2500 rpm, it will be at 12V or slightly less.
I stopped by the local O'Rielly and had the guy check. At idle, with the volt meter showing 13.5V, the shop meter showed 13.8V but less than 30 amps???
Does that mean my brushes are gone? Are they easy to replace? Or should I find an alternator shop for a 'rebuild"? I have never taken one apart. I don't even know what the amperage should be, but it should be greater than 30.
Here is a pic of it, I couldn't find a brand label anywhere on it. I also don't know where the voltage regulator is, if there is one, the fender is clean except for the overdrive relay.
