I swapped the front brakes for my brand new, PnP fresh, calipers and rotors on my '90 240 DL Sedan. With my overpriced Snap-on flare wrench, all went smoothly except...
My homemade power bleeder was a bust but not because of the design. I lost my beautifully pre-drilled, threaded cap when I swapped it to do the wife's appliancemobile. Whipped over to the to the PnP for cap, drilled it, threaded the nylon pipe nipple and could not get a good seal, 5-minute epoxy and I was off to the races, but...
The stinking reservoir on the Autozone master cylinder (3 months old) leaks at the seam! Argh! I was still able to get a moderate bleed and the brakes are SOOOO much firmer now with only about an inch of free travel (still not right but good enough for now). I assume I still need to replace the reservoir soonest but globbed some sealant on it for now.
My ball joint boots are shoot so I assume I need new. Been a LONG time since I did them and I honestly cannot remember the process. Reading my Haynes...It looks as simple as unbolting the housing from the strut, unbolt the ball joint from the A-arm, loosen the nut, separate the ball joint. Install in reverse. Did I miss anything?
Also, Any brands to get or avoid for ball joints?
Thanks,
Mike
