Good day,
Out for a ride yesterday in my 1990 740 turbo B230FT. 160k miles, overall well cared for.
Engine stopped suddenly. No noise, nothing.
Car cranks but sounds odd so I am thinking timing belt. Belt was changed at around 129k now at 166k. A little early for that to fail but car is stored a lot during the year.
Timing belt would explain for the sudden engine stop and the no start odd sounding cranking.
What is really troubling is oil is pouring out from near the front of the engine. Lots of it.
I await someone to pick up the car so I haven't had a chance to have a look. Oil is dripping from the cross-member.
My question is is there anything under the timing cover that would fail and create these symptoms? Cam bearing? Idler seal (if there is one)?
TIA
