Check Engine Light 900

I'm trying to short cut reading all the On Board Diagnostic information under the FAQ.

The check engine light has been on since July when I purchased this'95 940 Turbo Wagon with 190K miles. I have driven the car locally, but not a lot while I've been working on other issues. The check engine light signifies something is wrong, but the car has run fine all this time. Finally, I'm at the point where I'd like to get the light off. I have followed the procedure to clear the codes and I have disconnected the battery, but the check engine light returns shortly after doing so.

I haven't bothered doing a probe check and reading the codes. Today its cold and raw outside and I'm a sissy. So here's my question:

I know the electric system operating the drivers seat was been disconnected by the prior owner. I don't know why, exactly, but it is not functioning and the seat position has been fine for me, the only driver of this car so far.

I notice at the beginning of the FAQs for OBD (On Board Diagnostics)that one of the sockets is for "Memory Seats".

May I assume, knowing the Memory Seat is not connected to the electric system, that the Check Engine light is at least due in part to that fault?
