Out of phase driveshaft works better (FYI, ~ ?) 200

A friend bought a 1990 brought it over for me to go through.

It drove OK but I thought it had some vibration. Going through it I found the driveshaft was out of phase. "That's it" I thought and I corrected it, lubricating the carrier bearing in the process.

Put the shaft back in and the vibration was way worse. After some trial & error found that it worked best w/ the shaft out of phase. Replaced w/ an on-phase used shaft from a parts car and vibration is gone.

The only anomalies I notices were:

- U-joints had been replaced and had zerks
- Metal cup that holds the spring against the carrier bushing was missing
- Carrier rubber donut was soft/ weak

I'm thinking

- The driveshaft was re-balanced when the u-joints were installed; or
- It lost a balance weight; or
- The carrier donut is worse than it looks

(The carrier bearing and u-joints are good)
