voltmeter reading in red zone 200 1982

I noticed the voltmeter on my 82 GLT reading in the high red zone, i.e., 16 volts or above a couple of days ago. The needle is not hard over but is reading just past the line that separates the safe zone from the red zone. Should I be worried?
