Dead Battery/Charging Issue 200 1978

Went out to start volvo 78 yesterday (on the first bitterly cold day of the year) and it cranked over slowly but started. Drove 22 miles to work and when I went out during my lunch the car did the same thing. Went over to a small shop I know and borrowed a tester and found the voltage to be 14V. By the time I drove home the lights were dim but when I parked the car wasn't able to start again. Could it be the battery just wont take a charge anymore?
