I've missed you folks.
Last weekend I had to take Sven ('89 245) up to a nearby Volvo Valhalla, from where he's undoubtedly been sent on his way to be remanufactured into something else.
I'm sorry to see Sven go. But I finally had to face the fact that problems were popping up faster than anyone would want to fix them, and that's aside from the cost. Over the 7 1/2 years I had Sven I spent many hours enjoying and working on that car - this was a bit of a project car. At one point I had it getting 29-30 mpg, impressive for a old school car with auto transmission.
I bought Sven in the fall of 2004 and drove the car 158,000 miles in all kinds of conditions. The odometer finally got to 345,823, though the speedometer quit working in summer of 2011. Sven ('89 245) was substantially retired since Oct. 2008. Through the summer of 2011 he still served ably as a spare car and hauling large and heavy objects.
