Just drove 3 hours at night through south Florida with no signs of trouble. Family and I pulled into a hotel parking lot, shut off my 1993 245 to reserve a room, then jumped back in to move the car farther down the parking lot.
It started normally, then I cut the wheel and started to back up. Halfway out of the parking spot the engine suddenly quit. My kids and wife were talking, so can't say I heard anything out of the ordinary.
It's been a trusty steed for years, so I assumed that it would start right back up.
The engine cranks strongly, but does not catch at all. No sign of spark (or perhaps it has spark, but no fuel?)
The only oddity with this car is that the button on the automatic gear shift sticks in the down position, so won't crank if the button isn't popped up. It cranks now, so that's not likely part of the issue.
My '84 240 died similarly a few years ago - the in-tank fuel pump hose had a hole that sucked air when the tank was less than 1/4 full. The tank in this car is 7/8ths full.
We have a doctor's appt. first thing in the morning for my 8 mos. pregnant wife, so hoping to troubleshoot tonight if possible. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
