B23 engine, rough idle after replacing flame trap 200 1983

Hi all,
Did a 700 mile round trip two weeks ago, and was spewing oil out the fill cap. Determined it was a clogged flame trap (metal flame trap and nearly closed solid). Replaced the flame trap with a plastic one from a b230 engine, hooked up the hoses and drove home without issue. Had to lengthen the hose from the top of the flame trap with a second hose. No hose clamps at the time, so I seated one hose deep inside the other, and secured them together with several zipties.

Now the car has a very low idle when cold, and will stumble until I get up to temp. and I'm hearing a sound like a jet engine between 35-50 mph.

I'll replace the zipties with a proper clamp or better yet, a proper single hose setup and see if that takes care of the jet engine sound, but what would cause a lower, and rougher idle after fixing a flame trap issue?

Thanks,
Bruce
