I will be inheriting my parents 1993 240 Classic wagon in the next few months. It has 74,000 miles. Although the oil is changed every year with a basic 10W-30 mineral oil the car is driven short distances in Florida from November to April, averaging 2,000 miles a year over the past 6-7 years. There is an oil film all over the engine block, valve cover gasket, camshaft seals. No leaks under the car. The rocker arms are dark with varnish, though nothing like the pictures of BMW's that have had the extended oil changes.
I am considering the following and would appreciate your thoughts:
1) Replace flame trap, PCV and oil separator, cam and valve cover gaskets, rear and main seals. None of these items have ever been changed.
2) Run Luqui Moly engine flush. Remove oil pan and inspect for build up.
3) OLF with Redline 10W-30.
4) Add magnetic drain plug and magnetic on filter.
5) Change oil and filter after 2,500 miles watching for oil warning light.
6) Replace all filters.
7) Run Luqui Moly fuel and injection cleaners.
My choice of Redline involves using a class V polyol ester for the solvency and tendency to swell vs. shrink seals, plus Redline has higher levels of ZDDP which I feel benefit this engine.
All my driving will be highway.
I would appreciate your thoughts and suggestions.
Thank you.
