Hi all,
I just pulled the brake booster from my work-in-progress long distance rally 1974 144 to get it rebuilt. In AUstralia we have a cross bar system so the booster is on the LHS. I noticed the bracket the booster was bolted to has lots of holes so I checked and yes, it is also drilled to the same spacing as a 240 booster. These are a lot more common and, importantly for me, a lot lighter.
Also the 240 master cylinder has a stepped bore which means I could use one end for the front brakes and one for the rear and keep the bias reasonable without massive bias adjustment problems.
My question is: has anybody done the swap, or thinks its a bad idea? The only problem I can see (apart from a bit of plumbing) is that the actuating rod on the 144 is a lot longer than the 240. Also the 144 rod is adjustable.
Thoughts comments and criticisms please!
