This is a continuation of trying to deal with rusty fuel components. The original post is here:

I was able to disassemble the rusty fuelpump/filter/feed line after about a week of soaking with PB Blaster.
The old style feed line with the banjo fitting was a direct replacement. I thought I was good to go but when I started the car and looked for leaks I found this component leaking as well:

I do not know what the name or function of this part is. It is not part of the earlier b230ft equipped cars. It is in line with a section of flexible fuel line. It would be a simple matter of removing it from the system, but of course I would like to know what purpose it serves before I take that step. Any help?
