Hello Brickboarders/122 gurus:

I acquired an used points conversion ignition kit, "Fireball XR700" by Crane Cams. Included with the kit was a distributor (Bosch 0 231 178 007) that was already set up to be used for electronic ignition.

I know that all I need to do is to just replace the original distributor (Bosch 0 231 153 003) with the one that was converted, but one question for that: the original dizzy has a condenser attached to it while the other one with the conversion does not...should I add one?


I have also cut through the armored cable to pull out the wire to be connected to the XR700 ignition module. BUT...is it advisable to change to a higher performing coil for electronic ignition use? I've read that some have, some have not, so what is the significance?

One last but not the least question based on the diagram below...do I need to include the ballast resistance as shown in the picture? I tried going through old postings for more information on the ignition conversion and some said that the original armored coil already has internal ballast. Is that right? If not, what specific ballast should I use, and where can I get one?

Any advice/caution greatly appreciated, especially from those who may have already used the Fireball XR700 on their 122s.
