trim on drivers frame 245 1987 won't stay on 200

I have a 1987 245 with a U SHAPED plastic or rubber piece that fits over a flange on the car body, not the door. I can't get it to stay on, even using weatherstrip cement a year ago. It would appear to be an inch or so too short, as if it had shrunk. This is NOT rubber weatherstrip on door. Suggestions?
