1986 740 fuel sender connector broke off

ok found my issue. the intank fuel pump is shot.

problem: my friend decided to go against my word and pried off the plastic sender unit connector in an attempt to remove the harness(bad idea im still yelling at him for it)

now my issue is how i can get everything back together once i r&r the fuel pump.

are the wires in the harness the exact same colors as the ones in the sender assembly for fuel pump power and gauge? or which wire do i need to hook up where?

naturally theres only 2 wires a white/black stripe(center of connector) and the other wire that feeds off of the red wire on the engine side of the connector im not positive of the color off hand i forgot. there is a third wire unused(brown or purple solid no stripe)

would simply cutting the connector piece off and soldering/heatshrinking the harness ends onto the cooiresponding wires, sealing the sender top with a glob of silicone rtv(red) work or should i just get a used assembly from the boneyard and return the new pump alltogether?
i have the metal sender unit and the tabs for the connector wiring are present with just enough there to solder if i can get it to hold but the sender is rusty which ill be cleaning up and applying rustoleum(no por 15 handy)

any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
