Drive Belt Problems+ any experience with Krikit belt tensioner 200 1992

Hi,

On my wife's 92 245 I have had numerous belt problems.

Some might remember this from last year-

My wife was by herself driving ,she called to say the dash lights lit up the car had no power, she said there was a screech beforehand. She pulled into the driveway with no belts. Everything checked out fine except for the belts-they were gone (luckily she only had a short distance to drive). They were one year old Contitech belts.

The other day the belts were getting the screech sound, they felt a little loose by way of thumb. I tighten them and still screeching away. I take a close look at them and they all have cracks on the insides of the ridges (these are Contitech belts also) and they need replaced.

So I pull a fresh batch out but this time tension everything with a Krikit tensioner per the 700/900 FAQ info that states Contitech's specs for B2XX engines:

Alt, PS belts: new belt tension at 45kg

AC belt: new belt tension at 55kg

Now I figured before I had the belts too tight, they prematurely wore and then broke.

But tensioning with the Krikit, the belts are much tighter than when I tensioned them by thumb. Though you can still get the 5-10mm deflection spec-it all depends on what you perceive as moderate thumb pressure.

Now I just went on a short drive and everything seems fine except for a very faint undertone from the belts when you accelerate from a stop-reminds me of a jet engine starting.

So opinions please and does anyone have experience with the Krikit?

Travis
