Sometimes the car does what is in the subject of the thread, sometimes not.
I've checked the FAQ and it does not cover exactly this symptom.
It will start up just fine, hot or cold. The idle is fine too, it does sound a bit high, though. But not much. But the moment any gas is applied, to try to move it, the engine stalls. It has done this from a stop sign/light, and today in a parking lot. The car had been parked for about 15 minutes prior to this, thus was warm. I think it is fine when fully cold in the morning. When cold it takes gas pretty well, maybe only a slight hesitation. When it is warm, usually simply restarting it is all that it requires, but this morning it would not take any gas at all to get it to move out of its parking space in the shopping center. It used to just hesitate a bit, only stalling some times. Now, it usually stalls. But it will start back up in an instant but won't take gas to try to get it moving. It only rarely does this to me, but more frequently to my wife and daughter. I know what you are thinking, but I think something is wrong with the car because it used to be perfectly fine for any us.
The only thing that is unusual about the car is that the diaphragm in the brake booster had failed. But the vacuum hose was disconnected and stopped up with a bolt. That is the first thing I'll look at when my daughter gets it home. Would a vacuum leak cause these symptoms?
I'd welcome any ideas for troubleshooting. My wife and daughter are very dependent on that car, and they work 27 miles from home, so I need to get it running reliably as quick as I can.
Thanks
