Hi Fellas:
Recently, I'm noticing a starting issue. More and more frequently, when I crank, it feels like the engine won't quite turn over. It'll do this once say and then I'll try again and it will start. Then it's fine for a couple of days and now it has started back. Today, it happened a couple of times and on the third or fourth try, I gassed it and it roared to life. When I tried to duplicate the pattern, the car started up on its own.
Again, it feels like the engine just kinda peters out.
I found this info elsewhere on this board. Is it the right place to start to begin to isolate the problem?
"Try this. With the shifter in PARK, put the key in the ignition switch. With your left hand, pull back the shifter toward REVERSE. You will not move the shifter out of PARK, only moving it against what might seem like a spring in slight compression. At the same time, with the right hand, turn the key to START. This might start the engine. This would indicate that the ignition switch is OK as well as the starter motor and thus in the NSS system. I would be interested in learning if your engine will start.
For the fun of Volvos,
Mike
