Ignition / Starting Issue Problem 200 1992

When it does start and run, does it rev up after hitting then idles back down to a normal idle? It probably use to, but you didn’t actually note it, into memory.

I am trying to figure out if the Idle Air Control (IAC) is sticking and not opening up when you first turn the key to give it enough starting air. You should not have to touch the pedal to start the car.

The part about the starter not drawing enough current due to bad connections or drawing too much current but not turning it into mechanical work can be a possibility and will get progressively worse. The mentioned voltage drop or having a clamp over the battery wire type ammeter will help a diagnosis of a slow turning over engine.

If the engine cranks over smoothly but does not fire the cylinders smoothly then that leans back away from the starter system.

You start with ignition first. It works like this, if the radio is on you will have to have good wires to the speakers, or there is no fun at all.

When was the last tune-up?

Then you have to consider the air/fuel deliveries with proper timing to the valves being closed. It would not be the first time a slipped timing belt has upset the balance of thinking things through.

Post as much information you can even if it seems trivial. We are not there for the touchy/feely experience.

I probably have a reputation for doing that! I ramble on into long postings like this, as my imagination is trying to put me there.
