1993 Volvo 240 AC Compressor back fitting is gone/stripped.(need some help please) 200 1993

Hey Folks, I know I am new here but I've got a major problem with the AC compressor in my 93 240. Apparently, a leak has developed at the back fitting of the compressor and when the hose was taken off, it was discovered that the fitting or rather its threads were gone or stripped. Not sure what cause it but my mechanic is telling me a new compressor is the only way to fix it. It will also need a new upper high pressure hose. Is this the case and if so, are any of the aftermarket compressors any good? Or do i need to stick with the Genuine Volvo one? Whats on there now is a Nippon Denso and before it ran out of R12, it was cooling brilliantly. Best AC I had in any car. Any advice would be greatly appriciated. alexp840
