I smell antifreeze when I get out of my car but it must be a gradual leak/seepage 900 1994

I couldn't find anything about this in the 700/900 FAQ, so am asking here. I've asked a lot of questions lately to better ensure I know where I stand with respect to my '94 940. This post continues this effort.

When I get out of my car I smell antifreeze. Two years ago a respected mechanic advised me that such seepage is not unusual in higher mileage B230F engines. He said to keep watching it, that it is difficult to predict if or when it will become a "must fix" issue. I don't remember exactly what he said but I think he described it as a slight seepage from somewhere on the head. Fixing it would entail major engine work and cost about $1500.

I see no signs of coolant in my oil. After 3000 miles my oil still looks clean.

When I had my oil changed the mechanic informed me that my coolant was down about half a gallon and that he had topped it off. I last changed the coolant two years ago when I had all my fluids changed.

I replaced my radiator 50K miles ago.

Any advice on this beyond the "keeping my eye on it"? Is this somewhat common? How much should I worry about it? At 180K miles what should I expect?

Thanks in advance for any advice that others can share.
