Short version - How do you bench-test an overdrive relay?
Long version - My OD for my M46 tranny stopped working. I bypassed the relay using the method described here ( http://www.brickboard.com/PRINT/?id=796055 ) and it engages just fine. I put an ohmmeter across the shift-knob switch and it works fine. I have installed several OD relays, a few of which I was told were functional, and still nothing. I've tried resoldering a few of them as well and still nothing.
I assume that either my relay karma is bad or maybe the 4th-gear switch is bad. It would be easier to confirm that a relay is good before digging for that 4th gear switch (which I don't want to do in the cold and snow), so can someone help? I do have access to a 12-volt power supply if that's needed for testing.
As long as I'm on the topic, do I have to lower the tranny to access that switch?
Thanks.
