Bench-testing overdrive relay 200 1984

With the ignition in position I, put the transmission in 4th gear and push the OD button. Do you hear the relay click? If not, pull back on the stick and push the button again. Does it click now?

You will need to lower the back of the transmission a couple of inches to access the 4th gear switch.

Take a look at your wiring first, though. If jumpering the relay gets the OD to engage, I think that would eliminate the 4th gear switch as a "suspect." I would look at the wiring that runs down through the shift boot and under the car.
