External HG Coolant Leak

Hello Bricksters,

I have had a small external headgasket coolant leak for many years now in my 93 red 240 sedan (B230F). I monitor the leak which is about one ounce of coolant every 60 to 100 miles. This has been going on for about 100K miles. The car now has 327K and the leak does not seem to have gotten worse. I just keep a good eye on the reservoir and refill periodically. The leak is between #3 and #4 on the exhaust side. I pumped up the reservoir to about 15psi and you can see a drop of coolant develop before it drips away. Further, there is a stalagtite of coolant that forms as it dribbles down that I clean up from time to time. I don't believe there are any other leaks in the system, oil included.

Just so happens I have two other 93's which loose coolant about the same rate, although I can't seem to locate the leak - if there is any. Both cars run well, but on to my question.

Assuming an internal leak doesn't develop, do all headgaskets eventually fail in this manner? For some of you "old-timers", what's been your take on this.

Thanks in advance for your experiences and taking the time to respond.
