Rear Light Frustration 200

My rear light clusters are a bit of a mess. Both brake light sockets won't hold in the cluster because the different sized tabs have broken . So I soldered the connectors directly to the PC board'circuit board'. This worked for a while but eventually I would get the dash bulb warning light - seemed no rhyme nor reason, just annoying.

Then it progressed to where the bulb warning light would come on when brakes applied and teh left brake light was ouwt. So I changed bulbs - no change. So I took both clusters our and cleaned the connectors copper traces etc. Put everything back. Still no change. However, now after uch fiddling when I press the brake no brake light comes on AND the fog light indicator on teh fog light switch comes no (but no fog light). When I turn teh fog light on, the fog light indicvator lights and no gof light comes on. The copper PC board is a bit messed up with my soldering so I suspect that may be something to do with it.

I'm almost at the point where I'm going to buy new rear light units - the tail lights leak, are cracked etc and they're becoming more trouble than they're worth but wanted suggestions before I give up and go that direction

Cheers,
