88 240 Bad OD solenoid... to keep or time to part out? 200 1988

Hi all,
I'm posting about my 88 240 wagon 220k.. recently the OD has been acting up. Initially it was the wires coming from the solenoid above the tranny, I basically fixed"" those, although I wasn't sure if perhaps recently they were loose or rubbing something. Well after taking it to my local Sweede Shop, they said that the solenoid had gone bad.. not the relay, switch, or wires, and that they didn't want to mess with it for fear of doing irreparable damage to the transmission housing. Now, I've read about putting in the manual plate that over-rides the stupid always on solenoid. So my question is, is this worth fixing? How, something I can do?
Also to note, the mechanic said the center carrier brace/arm is super rusty... although I'm not sure how bad it really is... Also my driver's side spring/strut is starting to rumble pretty bad,i've had the passenger one replaced.
So I'm thinking of starting to part out the car, even though I love it, and it's going to be hard. There's still alot of good parts in the car, daily driver, etc.. but at 25 and pretty rusty.. CLE, OH, maybe it's time to move on:(
Thanks for reading!
-cp
