'89 240 intermittent no start 200 1989

I'm having problems with my '89 240 appearing to be related to the fuel system. I have 3 operating 240's so I have donor cars. So far I have replaced the in tank pump (with a new one), the main pump (from donor car) and the fuel pressure regulator. Each time I have replaced a component the car starts and runs for about 5 or 6 starts. After setting overnight, it fails to start the next day. BTW, I have some mechanical skills, but no electronic skills or test equipment. I have kept the 240's on the road for about 15 years. One thing I have just noticed is that when I disconnect the fuel supply line from the injector rail there is no pressure there. I have just reconnected the line and the car started. Shouldn't that line have pressure in it? Anyhow I'm baffled with this one. Any ideas?
