getting the main fuel pump assembly apart 200 1982

Okay. I finally decided to do something about the gas smell I was getting whenever I stopped the car somewhere. Turns out the high pressure line is leaking around the banjo fitting at the point closest to the fuel pump.

So. . . I do have the right size socket and wrench to fit the head of the banjo fitting. . But, I cannot separate the head of the banjo from everything else because it all turns [up to a point because the line to the filter/check valve prevents too much turning] .

It seems to me that I will have take the banjo off and then tighten the nut that sits between the banjo head and the pump [with copper washers between everything]. I could then get a socket over the nut as a tightening device and I could replace the copper washers at the same time.

But . . . the banjo head is squeezed between the electrical fittings and has to be held in place by something. I tried needlenose vice grips but they could not hold on. I am now considering removing the pump from its round holder and trying to get everything onto the vice. . . but am still not sure if I can get enough room to allow the vice to grip tightly enough. How the heck do you get this thing apart? Do I need some kind of special tool?
