I am in the process of swapping out a perfectly good B16B and M4 trans. for a B20 that I rebuilt and a M40 trans. My problem is how to remove the shifter extension from the M4 trans. without mutilating the extension. This system does not use the internal snap ring retention, rather the extension is crimped in 2 places at a cutout on the extension. These crimps hold a narrow washer in position against what appears to be the standard rubber plug inside the extension as all the other PV's use.
I hope one of you guys can suggest a way to remove this extension without bad cosmetic or structual damage. I had a 59 544 in 1970-72 when I was in the Navy, it had the internal snap ring, so this one has me stumped. I know I can use a Dremel tool to cut the offending crimp, but I'm hoping for a less destructive method. I look forward to hearing from somebody with a great idea.
