740 regina fuel pump

the fuel pump in my 740 (regina) failed right on schedule, 155k miles. i hauled it out of the tank with art bernstein's wonderful tutorial in hand. i had ordered an entire new assembly from tasca ($360) only to find that even with fastidious VIN checking by the people at tasca (a great outfit by the way) the hookups on the cap were different. turns out volvo no longer stocks the assembly for any regina cars before 1992. i decided to just order the pump and reuse the old assemlby. brings me to my question. when i unsoldered the old pump i noticed that at the end of each wire there seemed to was what appeared to be a coil under the insulation at the end of the wire. whats with that?

cheers, chris
