Bypassing the heater core on a 240 200 1985

A new to me 245 might have a leaking heater core. The P.O. was "told" by his mechanic that it was the problem of leaking coolant. So, with the purchase of the car, he also threw in a new heater core and blower motor, which sounds ok to me. Anyway, once I get the car started and topped off with coolant and do find out it's the HC leaking, I don't plan on replacing it as I live in Florida and am very cold tolerant. Where would I shunt the coolant lines in order to re-route the coolant away from the HC? Should I just connect the heater hoses together and let it loop that way? What would be the chance it a leaking heater control valve.....that would be an easy fix. Would I see the coolant leaking from that junction? Thanks.
