240 Windshield Wiper Gone Insane 200 1984

A few years ago I replaced my 240's wiper motor with a used one from somewhere. After installing it, the motor would run fast when the switch is in the slow position, and slow in the fast position. It also ran fast in delay mode.

I was a bit amused by this reversal but thought little of it since everything worked. I kind of liked having the delay wipers run fast since the 240 motor seemed slower compared to newer cars. But I guess that's to be expected with a motor designed in the 1970s.

Then my amusement stopped when the delay would sometimes work and sometimes not work.

Then the delay stopped working altogether.

Now when switched to delay, the fuse blows. I tried another switch - same. Tried two other relays - same.

Also the wipers no longer auto-park. They stop when the switch is turned off.

I can only assume that either a short has developed in the wiring harness somewhere (although the wiring looks good at the relay, switch and motor), or the motor has lost its marbles...a failed component in the unit maybe?

I have another motor I'm going to install soon, which hopefully will return my 240 to wiper non-bazzaro world, assuming that this "new" motor isn't insane as the current one.

To make matters worse, the linkage to the wipers themselves broke. That is fixed, but I wonder if the strain of the linkage crimping and then breaking drove the motor over the edge.
