So, i just discovered the service interval booklet in my 245's glovebox.. Since day one, seems that the oil change goofusses at the "Volvo repair place" in WA have been using good ol orange Fram filters and whatever oil they've got handy. It varies from 10w40 to 10w30 here and there. But obviously they used whatever was available and cheap.
Now, the car in question has 207,000 miles, and has been previously chasing a hard start/stalling out. Which is why the previous owner sold it to me.
With some selective terminal cleaning, the hard start cleared up, but on occasion (I'm a "new" owner since 190,000) I still get some stalling and goofy idle when a bit cold. At highway cruising speeds I'll get a "sputter" and if I completely let off the gas, it will stall out. Seems to be intermittent though.
Now, given the history of bad filters/oil, where should I be looking for cleaning to clear this up? Throttle body? Anything else? Just wondering if anyone has any thoughts..
BTW, I use strictly Mann W917 and 10w30 or 5w30 (Wisconsin winters) and on occasion High Mileage oil. I don't bother with synthetic.
Thanks! Borkborkbork
