Fuel Hose Degradation 200 1993

Hello Enthusiasts,

I would just like to provide some info on a fuel line rupture that occurred the other day. Backing out of the driveway, I noted a 2' wide racing stripe, so I quickly shut her down and scoped out the problem. Apparently the transfer pump to main pump hose had ruptured. After some horsing around I was able to get it repaired with some 7/16 fuel hose only to find that the smaller return 18" hose from the metal piping to the top of the sender was also ruptured leaving another puddle of gas on the driveway. As an aside, I eliminated the schrader valve that the 93's have in the transfer line during that repair.

I was able to use 1/4" fuel hose for the return line repair. In both cases, each section seemed to be too small for the metal pipe ends or barbs, although I got each to reluctantly slip on.

The point that I'm making, however, is not in the repair, but rather upon inspection, how chewed up, crusty and flaky the original hose was. In addition, none of the clamps were usable and basically fell apart. In a number of places the string cording was exposed on the fuel hose sections. This was a fiery accident waiting to happen.

My suggestion to all of you is to take a look at these hoses and make a professional repair if necessary.

Good luck,

Marty Wolfson
