I have 166k miles on my '91 240 Wagon. About 8-10k miles ago, I replaced the PCV system (Oil Breather, hoses, flame trap) and the front engine seals. Afterwards, pressure on the engine was eliminated and leaks stopped completely.
Recently, some time in the last 3000 miles since my last oil change, the system has become clogged again and pressure on the crankcase has returned, oil is being pushed out of the front seals and around the oil breather. It also seems to be dripping down the hoses, possibly down the hose towards the MAF sensor (haven't checked yet, still having my morning coffee). Oddly, the flame trap is pretty clean, a little sticky, but not really clogged (I cleaned it anyway). Sometime this week, I'm going to try and take it all apart and clean it, but I'm concerned it seems to get so clogged so quickly.
My question is: why would this get completely clogged so quickly? Is this an indication of excessive blowback gases? Shot valves? What should my next step be to determine the issue? Compression test? Is there something else I should clean/change/replace earlier in the system before the pressure gets to PCV?
Thanks.
