Well Hello....belated New Year's salutations to Art & all who graciously provided help with the prior well-documented idle issues on our 89 240GL. Those collective fixes seem to be holding and the car is ready for our son's commute save for a weird electrical issue which appears to have very recently developed and which I'm hoping is a relatively quick fix if I can solicit some direction.
The car has no instrument console lights...the turn signal indicators come on & stay fixed both when the parking lights & headlights are turned on and....the tach gauge drops to "0". The indicators blink properly when the turn signals are used and flash when the emergency flashers are used. The lower console (heater controls), shift indicator and switches all light and the diffuser switch works properly, raising & lowering the brightness.
I have all headlights/high beams, external turn indicators, brakelights and most tailights..one socket on each side in the rear is missing. All idiot lights on the dash function...including the faulty bulb indicator which previously showed a couple bad bulbs.
It is very possible that the car did not have functioning instrument panel lights when we took it in a couple months back....never had it running in the dark...but, the solid turn signal indicator lights on the dash is a new symptom.
Fuses all check out as does voltage into and out of the fuse panel. Figured this might be a bad relay....checked the FAQ pages briefly...then had son pull the relay mounted behind the brake pedal....checked for bad wiring there and/or socket....all looked good....cleaned & reinstalled that relay...and this is pretty much where we're at.
I should say..I'm not able myself to get down under the dash as yet...couple unexpected abdominal surgeries the past couple months have the family barking at me if I clear my throat...and currently minding my every move. My son needs the car for commuting and probably ought to have funtioning dash light for the drive home at night. I can direct him just fine for digging into the dash but hoping somebody has had these symptoms and can identify a probable culprit before I go tearing into everything again....many thanks!
