I am bringing a 240 back into service and have had it worked on but there is a gremlin or two still causing issues.
Most times, a quick crank and the engine starts and runs great. Twice now a pattern is occurring. It cranks and the engine almost starts, a brief rough idle, and then dies. Afterward it cranks and cranks with no fire. If I crank occasionally over 10-15 minutes there is limited fire such as one cylinder fires. Or if more than one cylinder fires, the order is not consistent and the engine just dies. Then it is back to cranking.
This happened the other day. I waited 24 hours and then it started. Today, the same pattern emerged and I borrowed a car to get home from work.
Suggestions for troubleshooting? It goes for several days starting with no trouble. Then out of the blue, with a cold engine, it does not start.
