I have an ignition issue on the 73 1800, which is equipped with the original breaker points, etc. The car fires right up at first and runs nice and smooth for about 15-20 seconds. Then the ignition starts to skip a beat every few seconds and progressively deteriorates, missing more and more until it's missing as much as it's firing. At about 45 seconds after starting the engine it either dies or is running so foul that I shut the key off. I've watched the spark via a timing light connected to either one of the plug wires or the coil hot lead - makes no difference - I get the same indication. At first I get a nice consistent flash, flash, flash and then it becomes flash, flash, BLANK, flash, flash, BLAAAANK, flash, flash, BLAAAAAAAAAAAAAANK. Also, the tach swings wildly when the missing begins.
Points are new. I've tried two coils, the original and one from a parts car. I've tried two different used condensers whose condition is questionable. Nothing changes.
Does this sound like a failing condenser to y'all?
