New AMM 200 1990

Just installed a new (remanufactored) AMM from IPD. Car runs worse and IPD tec support says to let the car run "a while" so the CPU can re-calibrate itself.
True? OBD displays a 1-2-1 code. (fault in signal to/from air mass meter). What would make a know good AMM act so bad?
The car seems to run OK at speed and when accelerating, but it won't stay running when at idle. Could it be something related? O2 sensor or IAC?
For now I'll have to put the old AMM back in. With that one at least it would idle with the limp mode being episodic.
