speedo cluster 200 1989

I have often spoken about the brick and how ive endeavored to make it look and run good. There is one thing, so far, that drives me nutso. I have replaced the speedo cluster several times in the 15 plus years we have owned the beast.

I have learned to NEVER push the trip meter when the car is moving, and actually, now I don’t ever touch the trip meter at all. My mechanic has a wagon, about 350k on it, he has never had to replace the speedo, he says. Seems I replace ours about every 2-3 years; one year was 3 times.

Since I don’t fool with touching the trip meter, what’s going on? Is there something I may be doing that inadvertently messes with the speedo? I just don’t know. Believe me I’ve tried several “things,” new “gear”, bought a cluster once had supposedly been “refurbished“; that lasted about 2-3 years.

The only thing that acts up is the odometer/trip meter . The speedometer is fine. It’s a K9800. . Thanks for your “tips”.
