Hello, ya'll!
In the 6-1/2 years I've owned my '62 PV544, I have done a lot of things. What I've never done -- don't ask me why -- is changing the transmission fluid. I made a few times sure that it's topped off, but never drained and refilled it.
Today now I drained the transmission fluid, which was dirty with a yukky drain plug to match, then put almost a quart of some cheap 30-grade motor oil through it to flush it all out. Afterward, I filled it with Redline MT90 . . . until it came out of the overflow. It must have been less than a quart of fresh oil before it came out of the overflow, which is what worries me. All the information on the Internet tells me that the M40 takes 2 quarts of fluid, not 1. So either my tranny is not an M40, or the information on the Internet is wrong, or something else is going on.
Both plugs on my transmission, fill plug and drain plug, are on the right ( = passenger) side.
Any ideas?
Here's a photo of the transmission:
