Low Voltage 900

I have an intermittent charging problem in my 94-940 2.3 non Turbo. Leaving the house in the AM everything seems to be OK. About 8 or 10 miles down the road the aftermarket radio turns off and on a few more miles and it will die. I get a jump start and it runs fine for an hour or a day or two. the alternator puts out 14+ volts. I cleaned and tightened all the battery connections. The problem went away for 3 or 4 weeks. When I load test the battery it is in the green. I have changed both the battery and the alternator. The FAQ’s look for the 3 lights on the dash to show that the Alt is ok. Does the small wire on the alternator control it’s output? Can I just wire this direct? I don’t seem to be able catch it in the act, every time I check Alt voltage is good. The gremlins do tend to show up after about 300,000 miles.
