I got the M41 transplanted into the car and when I went to hook up the driveshaft it was contacting the bottom driveshaft tunnel. Also, the end of the shifter extension appears to be too far below the top of the trans tunnel for the shift lever to ever be able to throw fully into all gears without contacting the tunnel hole.
My first thought was that I have the wrong cross member, but all the bolts lined up as they should, plus it has a hole for the clutch return spring.
My guess is that I don't have the correct (tall enough) rubber mount. The CVI illustrated parts list that I use for reference calls for P/N 663605 with the note "harder for M41". The mount that I took out with the BW35 is P/N 662711, which I couldn't use if I wanted because it's old and separated. It measures 1-7/16" tall plate-to-plate. In the name of expediency I purchased a mount from Autozone (I know, you don't need to tell me) that measures about 1-1/2" plate-to-plate.
Questions:
Is P/N 663605 the current/proper mount, and if it is, does anyone happen to know its height when in good shape?
Is there anyway to tell me in words some distinguishing characteristics of a proper cross member for an M41?
Thanks again for everyone's help with this supposedly plug-n-play trans swap.
