parasitic current draw--first time in 33 years 200

Went out to our '83 wagon a couple of weeks ago and the battery was flat. Took the battery out, had it tested, FLAPS said "bad cell" so gave me a new one (still had a month of warranty remaining). Put the new battery in, car started right up, drove fine; I pronounced it good to go, then went out of town for a week.

Came back, went to move the car, battery dead again. Took it out, charged it--battery checked OK, charging system checked OK too--no problems with alternator, etc.

So . . . . I guess I must have a "parasitic" current draw even when key is off/out. I disconnected the neg pole on the battery and put an ammeter between the battery and the ground cable . . . ammeter showed 0.00 amps. If there is a draw, I should see something greater than that, right?

Am I doing this right?

Thanks in advance!
