Connecting Cat. Converter to Front Muffler 900 1996

I'm trying to re-connect the front muffler pipe to the catalytic converter on my '96 965. (I had to disconnect them to install a new parking brake cable.)

The older RWD Volvos I'm familiar with had triangular flanges on each pipe end, connected by 3 bolts and sealed via a gasket for this connection. On the 960 car the end of the muffler pipe has a trumpet-like opening that fits over the rounded end of the cat. A clamp wraps around this junction. No gasket between pipes. This was simple to reassemble, but I can't get it to stop leaking exhaust gas. Appreciate any recommendations on connecting these parts so they don't leak?
